Tom graduated with a Bachelor's in Spanish Language and Literature from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. He is pursuing his MA in Hispanic Linguistics with particular interest in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) and Portuguese. Tom is currently researching how socio-economic factors and anxiety affect language acquisition in adults and the interface between sociolinguistics and SLA. He also plans to study L2 Spanish speakers learning Portuguese as an L3, and how knowledge of Spanish can help or hinder the Portuguese acquisition process.
