Dr. McKnight attends Narrative Medicine Workshop

November 1, 2016

Dr. Kathryn McKnight attended the Narrative Medicine Workshop at Columbia University Medical Center this past weekend. Narrative Medicine enables health professionals to hone their attention to and understanding of patients’ experience of illness and health through close readings of literary texts and writing about their own experiences with patients. Their diagnoses and treatment plans improve as they develop an embodied and ethical imagination of their patients. Narrative Medicine is especially relevant to Professor McKnight because she is revising her Introduction to Hispanic Literature course with the intention of teaching close reading texts relevant to pre-professionals in health sciences.  She is also planning a course on historical health discourses in Ibero-Atlantic World.
