S&P Alumni Nominated for the Tom L. Popejoy Dissertation Prize

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese has proudly nominated Alumni Elena Aviles for the Popejoy Dissertation Award. Dr. Aviles wrote a complicated and creative interdisciplinary dissertation that combined Literature, Art History and Language. The dissertation was completed in 2014 and is called “Mi/My lengua franca: ‘Language,’ Manipulation and Chicana Cultural Heritage in Art and Literature”. Ms. Aviles completed her MA and PhD at The University of New Mexico and is now an Assistant Professor at Portland State University.
