Biography

Carmen Julia Holguín Chaparro was born in Hidalgo del Parral, Chihuahua, México.  She graduated from University of New Mexico in 2011 with a PhD in Latin American Literature.  Her dissertation's focus is on Matio Benedetti's novel Primavera con una esquina rota, in which she analyzed specific topics of political prisoners under the Uruguayan dictatorship of 1973.  From her research, she developed a strong interest in the literature and art representing the phenomenon of Latin America's dictatorships.  Other academic interests include micro fiction and short films.  She enjoys her work as a coordinator and Lecturer and the creative writing course she has developed for the department.  This course contributes to her own passion for creative writing.  Carmen Julia is a poet and occasional author of short stories and has published her poetry work in México, the United States, Spain and Uruguay.  Her first book of poetry, A tu prójimo amarás was published in 2008.
