Biography
Luciana Echevarría is an instructor of Spanish at the University of New Mexico. Originally from Lima, Peru, she has lived in Albuquerque for the past twelve years. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a second major in Spanish at UNM, where she first discovered her passion for literature and its power to connect culture, history, and storytelling. Literature also helped her reconnect with her own cultural identity, something especially meaningful to her experience as an immigrant navigating life in a new culture.
Before becoming an instructor, Luciana worked for several years in customer service as a server and bartender. Although outside her academic field, these experiences gave her valuable skills in communication and in connecting with people from diverse backgrounds, which she now brings into her teaching.
She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Spanish Literature at UNM. Her research interests center on questions of feminine cultural identity in the context of immigration, while also drawing on her background in psychology, to explore the intersections of psychological perspectives and literature.
