Biography
Nancy Varelas was born and raised in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. Spanish is her first language; she moved to New Mexico to complete high school and then attended college at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM. She obtained her Masters Degree in Hispanic Literature from UNM and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature. She taught levels I and II in the Sabine Ulibarrí Spanish as a Heritage Language program during her Masters program and is currently teaching level II. She was a teacher for Albuquerque Public Schools for over a decade before deciding to come back to the Ph.D. program in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. Nancy enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with her family.
