Biography
Born and raised on the Italian Mediterranean coast, Alessio Piras holds a Ph.D. in Spanish Literature from the University of Pisa. After living and working as administrative assistant for almost a decade in Barcelona, Spain, he decided to come back to research and teaching. He is now a Teaching Assistant and Ph.D. candidate in Hispanic Literature at the UNM. His research interests are Peninsular Spanish Literature and Cultural Studies of the 20th Century, Spanish Civil War Exile, and US Latino Literature. He published the book Il labirinto spagnolo. Max Aub, Ernest Hemingway, André Malraux e la Guerra Civile Spagnola, un’analisi di letteratura comparata (Oakmond, 2019), and edited the collection Transformaciones. Escritos sobre política y sociedad, 1961-1991 (Fundación Francisco Ayala/Universidad de Granada, 2019). At SpanPort he co-founded in 2022 Intersecciones Hispánicas. Revista de cultura, literatura y lingüística. He also published in Italy several crime fiction novels and short stories. In his free time (?) he loves traveling and riding his Vespa in his hometown in Italy (or elsewhere).
