MA Candidate in Hispanic Linguistics

Department of Spanish and Portuguese

Biography

Estela Neri Aguilera is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Spanish with a concentration in Hispanic Linguistics.
She teaches Spanish as a Heritage Language at the beginner level. Originally from Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, she earned her undergraduate degree in Hispano-Mexican Literature from the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez (UACJ). Her undergraduate thesis focused on the linguistic processes present in two significant works of the Hispanic tradition: phonology in El Poema de Mio Cid and semantics in El Periquillo Sarniento.
During her undergraduate studies, she worked at the Carlos Montemayor Central Library and completed her social service at the Museum of Archaeology and History in El Chamizal. These experiences allowed her to engage with the public through academic and cultural outreach, while applying her skills in literature, history, sociology, and related disciplines. Through these opportunities, she discovered her passion for language, literature, and society—particularly through the lens of her academic field. Her interests include art, literature, and film, with a special appreciation for Spanish, her native language.
