Biography

María is a Master’s student specializing in Hispanic Linguistics, and a teaching assistant in the Spanish as a Heritage Language Program. She graduated with a bachelors in Spanish & Linguistics from the University of Florida. Her main areas of research are Spanish as a Heritage Language and code-switching, and her secondary research interests include sociolinguistics and morphosyntax. Her previous research includes pauses as a measure of fluency in Spanish Heritage Speakers (SHS), the cognitive control effects of code-switching, and how SHS are perceived on social media. After her masters, María plans to pursue a PhD in Spanish with a specialization in Hispanic Linguistics.
