How are ideologies distributed across space? How might authors use space in prose? How are language and land connected? The Spanish and Portuguese Graduate Student Association (SPGSA) at the University of New Mexico is pleased to announce Querencias 2022: Conexiones con la tierra, which will explore these questions as well as the intersections of language, discourse, culture, and conceptualizations of space within the Hispanic and Lusophone world. We welcome abstracts for presentations and themed panels of up to 300 words (tables and references not included) in English, Portuguese, or Spanish from these interdisciplinary fields of study: Hispanic and Lusophone literatures and cultural studies, Hispanic and Lusophone linguistics, and Southwest and Latin American studies. Research within these fields is encouraged but not limited to the following topics:

  • Eco-literature and criticism, postcolonialism, contemporary literature, and gender studies.
  • Language fortification, bilingualism and language contact, language and cognition, autonomy in education, and dialectal variation.
  • Border studies, immigration, territorializations, and land protection and reclamation.

Presenters interested in the panel format should specify their choice in the abstract and are responsible for deciding who will be part of the suggested panel. Please submit one proposal per panel. This proposal should include the proposed panel topic (300 words), and as well as an abstract from each presenter (500 words).

Abstracts should be submitted to https://forms.gle/x6G8MMPnjXjfV3r89

Do not include any personal information in the abstract.
